Pushing the Pinhole   

Pinhole photography is much more than what it seems. Most pinholers only use the most obvious techniques. Usually, the image is simply captured on either film, photo paper or as a digital file. The images are normally presented without further manipulation other than some light photoshopping or printing improvements.

For myself and others, the pinhole image is a starting point for many potential outcomes. Nearly all of the imaging possibilities that are available for conventional lensed photography can be used to create unique pinhole images.

For the image here, I thought it would be fun to push the envelope a bit by shooting an HDR pinhole panorama using a Skink Pinhole Pancake on a DSLR. To push it further, I processed the images in Photomatix Pro HDR photography software and stitched them together in PTGui. Finally, I used Studio Artist to produce some fairly simple painting effects.

However, there are many other amazing software packages and plug-ins available that can turn your ordinary pinholes into something uniquely your own. And if you are more of a purest, you can still do a little work to make them more presentable without much effort by simply making a few adjustments in Photoshop or Lightroom.

The point is to have fun while making images using one of the simplest photographic techniques in the world.

We’ll just have to wait to see what transpires on WPPD. Hopefully, some wild and crazy images will come forth.

Pushing the Pinhole Image is fun, creative and I believe, very cool.
