Around this time of year, I begin thinking about WPPD. You may ask – What’s WPPD?

Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day is a single day in April where everyone on the planet is invited to make pinhole photographs. Planning for it and building cameras helps me get through the winter months. I’ll be talking about this more in the next few months. Watch for my poster.

The great thing about pinhole is that you don’t need a lens or a store bought camera.

The next pinhole day is April 27, 2014.

When most people think of a pinhole camera, they think of the simple box with a hole made from a needle. I am here to tell you, that the pinhole camera can be much more complex and the images produced can be very compelling. The pinhole image has a unique charm, which can be as simple or as dramatic as any lensed image. There are thousands that make it their photographic art form. It is considered to be an alternative process, which is one of many reasons why so many are interested.

Pinhole imaging is also a process that takes you back to the basics of recording light. Light, by the way, is what photography is about.
