“You don’t make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.”
― Ansel Adams

It may seem obvious, but you make a photograph based on your unique perceptions of the world.

How you perceive the world is linked to all those things that have guided you to this point. The how, why and what you photograph is governed by all of what you know and by what you have experienced in living your life. If you are like most of us, you will change as you proceed due to new experiences and new concepts learned through interactions with other people, other artists and other photographers with whom you might revere. Your ability to do so depends on just how open minded you are to new ways of thinking and seeing.

An open mind is what allows you to be open to fresh ways to see the world.

A photograph is a kind of thesis of what you believe in. In reality, a photograph is about who you are and what you think. A photograph is a self-portrait that reflects your concepts and opinions of the world to others. It is an account or an essay written in your voice, of what you think is important. It is a mark that you make using light and your mindset. It is a perspective on the world from your vantage point. It is an investigation of reality, existence, and life that you create from the ways in which you see the world and what you choose to show.

It shows us what you are made of, what you believe in, what you consider as significant.

How you do it is what others will see. Photography exposes the real you to the rest of the planet.

Photography is you speaking to everyone else in a visual voice.

A great photograph is a viewpoint of a point of view.
