We are living in a world overwhelmed by crises. Photography is like a mirror that is peering into our existence. Genuine contemporary photography attempts to shed light on the future of this tiny planet, who we are as humans and what we are doing to ourselves.

Contemporary image making should have little to do with big name cameras, the length of a lens, image resolution, sensors, iPads, smart phones, apps or computers. It has almost nothing to do with the latest products, fashion, sex, entertainment, who’s who, twitter, Facebook, the latest fad or the newest coffee at Starbucks.

But it does have almost everything to do with issues.

Here are a few of the most critical issues we face. These and many others, are the subjects of concerned image makers. They are the photographers who are attempting to make a difference with their work.

  • The Environment
  • Over Population
  • The human condition
  • Global Climate Change
  • Human rights
  • The BOMB
  • War
  • Guns
  • Human Dignity
  • Nuclear Power
  • Violence
  • Consumption
  • Greed
  • Women’s rights
  • The Homeless
  • Food
  • Water
  • Ignorance
  • Freedom
  • Globalization

If we do nothing to change the world, we face a very grim future. It is vital to listen to those who see what we are doing to ourselves. We are all in this thing called life together. We all have responsibility to see what is happening and to do something to make positive change.

Ignorance is not an option we can afford.

Time is not on our side.

Opinions do not count for much.

Only action will save us from ourselves.
