In the area of photography, it is a term used to describe the viewer’s preferences and perhaps the maker’s ego. I find it is often used to describe a camera image that someone seems to simply like. There is a huge difference between…and åwesome.

Abstraction is meant to provoke the viewer. It is meant to spark the imagination, it begs for an answer, it compels contemplation.

Every part of a photograph should contribute to the understanding of the whole image.

If I have to explain it, it isn’t free to do its thing………The viewer brings their own history to the table. It is best when they are forced to think.

It isn’t about the camera, the lens, or the technique you use. It has nothing to do with shooting like another photographer, copying a style, or being one of them.
