It’s spaceship Earth and we are out of control.

Every one of us, including photographers, can pretend that the world is OK. We can buy into the capitalist concepts that the world’s resources are exploitable and create fictitious images that perpetuate our demise, or we can try to seek truth and reality that might wake the population out of our delirium. It is I believe, the job of an image-maker to show the world what needs to be seen.

Realizing the truth is the only way to save what we might still have left.

The nature of this planet acts as a life support system. It provides the things we need to live. It is a complete machine in that it can maintain itself. It has done so for millions of years.

However, we humans have upset that mechanism through over-consumption of the world’s resources. We have robbed the future and we have stolen from ourselves the very things that life requires.

Without breathable air, edible food and drinkable water, we will all die – rich or poor – every single one of us will succumb to extinction.

Nobody will survive unless we wake up and do something.

What needs to be done needs to be done in a drastic way. We need to stop, look around and rethink who and what we are. We need to rethink how and what we consume.

What we actually need to live and what we believe we want are two very different things. We simply can’t have it all. It is not up for grabs. Earth belongs to all life. We are only a small part of a very complex equation.

At the moment, we probably hate ourselves for letting things go this far. I think we would also hate that we ever let it go at all.

If you think that somehow we’ll all blast off and move to another planet, think again.

We are on the spaceship and we are the crew.

Ground control to Major Tom.
